BIO

"Never," to quote W. Eugene Smith, "have I found the limits of the photographic potential. Every horizon, upon being reached, reveals another beckoning in the distance. Always, I am on the threshold."
Thank you for visiting my website!
I’m Larry D'Attilio, an award-winning international fine art photographer, author, workshop leader and human rights champion. I'm based in Los Angeles, and since 2006 have also been working as an artist in Vietnam for many months at a time.
My fine art degree is from the University of Louisville, and I also studied photography independently with Ansel Adams. As a professional artist, I've exhibited for many years in the U.S., Malaysia, Italy, and Vietnam, and I've taught photography in continuing education programs and workshops, mentoring hundreds of students (I continue to teach photography in person and online.)
My work in Vietnam also includes raising money for a micro-loan program in Vinh Phuc Province that serves thousands of poor rural women’s startup businesses. A portion of the sale of each art print in the Vietnam collection or my book goes as a donation to that program.
I’ve had other careers in my life.
-
I was a pilot and the founder and president of the Bellanca - Champion Club, providing technical support to over one thousand owners of those two aircraft brands.
-
I was the successful co-plaintiff in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court Fast Track decision involving civil liberties for minorities.
-
I had a 31-year professional music career as a bassoon player for three major American symphony orchestras.
I produced black and white art early in my career, using large format cameras to make traditional images in the darkroom, while also pursuing my symphony career. Before the new century I’ve embraced color and have been entirely devoted to fine art photography, my earliest and first love.
